Casandra Elizabeth Ventura, professionally known as Cassie, was born on August 26, 1986, in New London, Connecticut. She is of mixed heritage, with a Filipino father and a mother of African-American, Mexican, and West Indian descent. Cassie attended The Williams School, a preparatory institution on the Connecticut College campus. At the age of 14, she began modeling, working for local department stores and appearing in catalogs such as Delia's and Seventeen. Her early exposure to the entertainment industry included a brief appearance in R&B singer Mario's "Just a Friend 2002" music video. 

Musical Career and Breakthrough

Cassie's musical journey commenced in 2004 when she met producer Ryan Leslie, who signed her to his label, NextSelection Lifestyle Group. Leslie produced her debut single, "Me & U," which gained significant attention and led to a partnership with Sean "Diddy" Combs' Bad Boy Records. Released in 2006, "Me & U" peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum. Her self-titled debut album, "Cassie," also released in 2006, reached number four on the Billboard 200 chart.

Her acting career includes roles in films like "Step Up 2: The Streets" (2008), where she played Sophie Donovan, and "The Perfect Match" (2016), portraying Eva.She also appeared in "Honey 3: Dare to Dance" (2016) and had a role in the television series "Empire" in 2018.

Personal Life and Advocacy

Cassie's personal life garnered public attention due to her relationship with Sean "Diddy" Combs, which lasted from 2007 to 2018. In 2023, she filed a lawsuit against Combs, alleging over a decade of abuse, including physical assaults and coerced sexual acts. The lawsuit was settled in November 2023, but it prompted further investigations and additional allegations against Combs. 

In 2019, Cassie married fitness trainer Alex Fine. The couple has two daughters and, as of May 2025, is expecting their third child.
